Pilates exercises borrow from yoga, dance and gymnastics, but also include lots of original movements that distinguish them from these other exercise techniques. Pilates targets the core muscles of the body often overlooked in many other exercise systems. Physiotherapists and other medical personnel routinely recommend Pilates to patients with lower back issues, and Pilates exercises are often incorporated into rehabilitation programs.
Pilates’ focus on building core muscles, gives a greater awareness of your posture, adds grace and coordination to everyday activities as well as improving sports and athletics. Its low-impact exercises can be modified to suit almost anyone of any age and condition.
Situated on Cork’s Penrose Wharf, (a 10 minute walk from the city centre and close to the train station) The Pilates Studio is a fully equipped, sunny, serene 1150 square foot exercise space. Fundamental, Intermediate and Advanced Mat classes are offered mornings, mid-day and evenings; individual classes on the equipment are available by appointment. Mat classes are restricted to 12 participants so early booking is advisable.
